The Role

We're looking for a Solutions Engineer to join our growing SE team and own the technical side of the enterprise sales motion — from methodology explanations for our data through proof of value testing, onboarding, and beyond.

This is a customer-facing role at its core. You'll spend the majority of your time working directly with enterprise prospects and customers: understanding their use cases, designing and running data tests, guiding them through evaluations, and making sure they get real value out of IPinfo's data products. You'll work across our full portfolio: geolocation, ASN and company data, anonymizer detection, WHOIS, residential proxy, and more.

This is not a quota-carrying sales role, and it's not a support role. You're the person who bridges the gap between what a customer is trying to accomplish and what our data can actually do, and you take ownership of that gap end to end. Externally, you represent IPinfo's technical authority: customers should come away from every interaction feeling like they're in expert hands. Internally, you're a critical advocate for the customer — willing to challenge product and engineering assumptions when what you're hearing in the field demands it.

SEs at IPinfo sit at the intersection of sales, product, and engineering. You're often the person with the clearest view of how customers are actually using our data, where they're running into friction, and what they're asking for that we don't yet offer. We expect you to bring that signal back into the company — shaping product thinking, informing data quality priorities, and helping engineering understand what's happening in the real world. You'll work closely with multiple teams across IPinfo, and the best people in this role treat that cross-functional reach as a core part of the job.

You'll report to the Head of Solutions Engineering and work closely with the sales team to move deals forward, but your success is measured by the quality of the technical work you deliver and the outcomes for customers, not pipeline numbers. The compensation model is a fixed salary, with no commissions or quotas to hit for full freedom to do what’s best for the customer.

The role is fully remote with flexible hours, occasional opportunities to attend conferences, and travel to a yearly team retreat.

What You'll Do

  • Run proofs of value and data tests — design and execute evaluations that genuinely get to the bottom of how the data can be valuable for the customer’s specific use cases. Own the process from scoping through results and follow-up.
  • Lead technical discovery and methodology explanations — get to the real opportunity fast, tailor technical talks to what actually matters to each customer, and make complex data and internet concepts accessible.
  • Support the full customer lifecycle — you're involved pre-sale, through onboarding, and into retention. Enterprise customers should feel like they have a knowledgeable, reliable technical counterpart at IPinfo.
  • Manage custom dataset delivery — some enterprise customers have specific data needs that go beyond standard products. You'll own the scoping, delivery, and quality of custom datasets end to end.
  • Become a product expert across the full portfolio — geolocation methodology, ASN and company data, privacy detection, WHOIS, residential proxy detection and more. You need to know the data well enough to advise customers on what to use and when.
  • Contribute to how the SE team operates — document what you learn, improve the playbooks, build reusable assets. As we grow the team, you help set the standard for what good SE work looks like at IPinfo.
  • Be the voice of the customer inside IPinfo — you'll have a front-row seat to how enterprise customers actually use our data, where it falls short, and what they need next. We expect you to bring that back to product and engineering in a way that's specific, grounded, and actionable.

What We're Looking For

Must-have:

  • Strong SQL skills — you'll be writing queries regularly, working primarily in BigQuery, and need to be comfortable with data at scale without hand-holding.
  • Comfortable working with APIs — querying, evaluating responses, debugging — this is everyday work.
  • Familiar with bash scripting and comfortable in a command-line environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication — you should be comfortable explaining difficult topics clearly to a wide variety of audiences, and a keen listener.
  • Excellent written communication — we operate async whenever possible, so Slack, Linear, and email are where most work happens. You write clearly and concisely, and can translate technical results into plain business language for a sophisticated enterprise audience.
  • Self-directed with high ownership — an "I'll handle it" attitude. You can pick up a customer situation, figure out what needs to happen, and drive it to resolution without needing constant direction.
  • Genuinely curious — you go deep on things. Whether it's understanding how a customer's fraud pipeline works or how IPinfo's geolocation methodology differs from a competitor's, you want to actually understand it, not just enough to get by.
  • Confident humility — you project expertise and make customers feel they're in good hands, while staying genuinely open to learning. You don't always have all the answers, and you're comfortable with that.
  • Timezone overlap with Western Europe / US East coast  — we have regular customer calls during European and US business hours.

Nice to have:

  • Background in IP data, networking, or internet infrastructure — you'll ramp faster and advise customers more confidently if you already understand ASNs, routing, and how the internet works.
  • Experience in a B2B data or API product company — familiarity with how enterprise data evaluations and licensing work is a genuine advantage.
  • Experience in key industries for IP data like cybersecurity and adtech.
  • Python scripting — useful for building more sophisticated data tests and analyses for customers.
  • Comfortable with using AI as a tool to deliver high quality work faster and more assertively without ever giving up ownership of the results.

About IPinfo

IPinfo is the leading provider of contextual IP address data. Our API handles over 100 billion requests a month, and we license our data to power products and services used by companies around the world — from T-Mobile and TransUnion to Datadog, DemandBase, Cloudflare and many more. We started as a side project in 2013, offering a free geolocation API, and have since bootstrapped our way to a profitable business with a global team.

Our data covers geolocation, company and ASN intelligence, carrier detection, privacy and proxy detection, WHOIS, and more — and we obsess over accuracy and reliability in a way most competitors don't.

How We Work

We have an ambitious team spread across the globe. We sync on a monthly all-hands Zoom call, and most teams meet every two weeks. Everything else happens asynchronously — via Slack, GitHub, Linear, and Notion — which means you can work the hours that make you most productive.

To thrive here you need high autonomy, strong communication habits, and the ability to manage your own priorities without much oversight. We don't micromanage; we hire people we trust to own their work. Once a year, we get everyone together for a week in locations like Barcelona, Milan or Split to spend time with each other and build bonds. Maybe we’ll see you in Panama this year!
